Project Update: Progress on Base Material Characterization

March 2025

 characterization samples

Shottempering project continues to advance with the ongoing characterization of the base materials. This task includes the evaluation of the steel grades both in their supplied conditions (27MnCr7 with an isothermal annealing and 42CrMo4 and C55 in as rolled conditions)  and after tempering at different temperatures relevant to the potential application of warm peening.

The objective is to assess the mechanical properties and behaviour of the steel grades under conditions that simulate the process environment, providing essential data for the next stages of the project. This work will support the optimization of the selected steels for their final application in the demonstrators.

All characterization results will be detailed in the upcoming Deliverable 2.2, which will be published soon.
